Portal of Exit

A portal of exit is the path that an organism takes to leave or vacate its reservoir.

The common portals of exit include:

  • via respiratory tract
  • via genitourinary tract
  • via gastrointestinal tract
  • skin (non-intact or broken) or mucous membranes e.g. eyes, nose, mouth
  • bleeding
